Record signing Johan Elmander knew instantly he wanted to sign for Bolton Wanderers.

The Sweden striker eventually completed a club-record £10million switch from Toulouse on Friday, six months after manager Gary Megson originally enquired about the 27-year-old.

At the time, Elmander hoped a deal would go through and once Megson revived his interest this summer, nothing was going to stop the former Brondby star taking his chance with the Trotters.

"It is difficult to explain but when something is right, you just get a feeling," he told the club's official website.

"Bolton really wanted to buy me in January and I was very flattered about that.

"When I was talking to my agent a few weeks ago he again mentioned Bolton were interested and I felt a good feeling in my body right away.

"Then I met Gary Megson and there was even more positive energy coming into me."

Elmander was already pretty certain about what he wanted to do but a quick chat with fellow countryman Christian Wilhelmsson, who had a spell on loan at Bolton last term, merely reinforced his desire.

"Christian said many positive things about the club," he said.

"I have seen Bolton play many times on TV and they played really well in the UEFA Cup last season.

"The Premier League is the best in the world and since I was a small child it has been a dream come true to move here."

Through his Scandinavian connections and time spent in France, Elmander already knows Jussi Jaaskelainen, El-Hadji Diouf and Gretar Steinsson and will now consult his games console to learn the attributes of his remaining new team-mates.

With his bustling style, Elmander is confident he will win over the Bolton fans, although he is urging a measure of patience.

"I am a player who will always fight for 90 minutes," he said.

"I always give my best and always play for the team.

"It may take me a bit of time but when I get into the team I will do my best and score many goals.

"I am really looking forward to training and can't wait to run out at the Reebok and hear the crowd when they are cheering."

Elmander is not due to start pre-season training just yet following his Euro 2008 exertions with Sweden.

However, given the disappointing manner in which the Swedes concluded the group phase, Elmander could be forgiven if he wanted to forget all about it.

"Not going further than the group stages at Euro 2008 was very disappointing," he said.

"For one-and-a-half games we played really well and for the other one and a half we played badly.

"We lost too much energy against Spain. We were all looking forward to that game and forgot that we had to play against Russia as well."
